Via PFT:
The operative phrase being "most likely." We don't know who King's sources were here or if it may have just been pure speculation in a desperate attempt to talk about something.
This happens all of the time in sports, though. Games are only a fraction of what's talked about. The machine that is sports media has to constantly be in motion, even when there's actually nothing to talk about. Just a few weeks ago, Lance Armstrong was the most evil man in the world of sports. One week later, it was Manti Te'o. Now, it's Ray Lewis.
If you take a step back from it, most of what's talked about on sports TV and radio is incredibly arbitrary. The writers and radio/tv personalities are just brilliant in their ways of spinning a yarn.
Peter King may end up being right about Reed's future, but the fact that Ed Reed becoming a Patriot became a story 3 days before his actual, current team was set to play in the Superbowl is incredibly disheartening.
While it's admirable that NBC Sports called themselves out via the link provided above, it's very much worth noting that they weren't even close to being the most aggressive media outlet in "connecting the dots" about Reed. ESPN used the speculation to fulfill their 24-hour news cycle all of yesterday.
A tip of the hat to Reed for putting the media on blast after they started a rumor that he disliked and good for NBC Sports for holding themselves accountable.
Ravens safety Ed Reed is aware of the stories linking him to the Patriots, and he’s not happy about them.
Reed said his quotes about being able to see himself in a Patriots uniform have been taken out of context by reporters who are looking to create stories during Super Bowl week.
“The bad part about this is that you all ask the question, but don’t write down everything that someone says,” Reed told reporters on Thursday. “People only get a part of what the comment was. I don’t have to say much about that. My heart is in Baltimore. The question is, ‘Would I play for Bill Belicheck?’ Yes. What football player wouldn’t play for Coach Belicheck? Will I be in New England? Most likely not. It’s just terrible that people get half of the story.”Speculation began when Peter King said on NBC's Pro Bowl Pregame show that Reed will most likely become a free agent and most likely be picked up by the Patriots.
