[VIDEO] Warriors-Pacers Shoving Match

Posted by Mejdy Jabr on Tuesday, February 26, 2013
Because calling it a "fight" would just be false reporting. David West, Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, and David Lee were all called for technical fouls. Roy Hibbert, who man-handled both David Lee and especially Stephen Curry, was ejected. While Pacers fans may find it unfair that David Lee, who technically started the shoving brawl, was not ejected, Hibbert was unquestionably the catalyst in escalating the situation. The Pacers went on to win the game by a score of 108-97, but there's a good chance that we can at least expect a few fines to come down from the commish.

[UPDATE] Via USA Today:
The Golden State Warriors and Indiana Pacers each lost a key starter for a game because of their Tuesday night fight.
Warriors All-Star forward David Lee and Pacers center Roy Hibbert were suspended one game each for their roles in a bench-clearing brawl that nearly spilled into the stands late in Indiana's 108-97 victory Tuesday. Lee will miss Wednesday's game against the New York Knicks; Hibbert sits Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
In addition, Warriors guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson and Pacers guard Lance Stephenson were fined $35,000 each for escalating the altercation.
Lee's agent, Mark Bartelstein, told USA TODAY Sports he will appeal the suspension. The appeal wouldn't allow him to play against the Knicks but would allow him to be paid for the game.
"I don't think what David did warranted a suspension, but that's something we'll talk about privately with the league," Bartelstein said.
I don't find the David Lee suspension to be logical, but I've come to expect nothing more from both the NBA and NFL.

The Hibbert suspension was warranted, but if Curry was fined $35k, then David Lee should have received a fine for $50k. He made a cheap shot in-play during the game. It wasn't a punch; it was a push. What makes it even more baffling is that he received the same punishment as Hibbert.

Did Lee pushing Hibbert as opposed to Hibbert going out of control while nearly bringing a fight into the stands warrant the same punishment?

I don't think so, but I'm not the commissioner. Thankfully, soon, Stern won't be either, so there's always that.
